The oversea entrance exam is restricted to students enrolled in Bekka of our university and applicants from the partner schools of NBU.
The dates of the examinations for autumn semester enrollment and the overseas entrance examination will be announced later, following application submission.
Examination places are subject to change according to the situation of application.

Selection Criteria

Written Examination (150 points) (Japanese language ability [100 points], essay written in Japanese [50 points]) and interview [100 points]( Maximum total score: 250 points )

Based on the results of the entrance examination and the submitted documents, the admission and type of the NBU Tuition Reduction Scholarship rank is determined. The candidate’s grade obtained in the Examination of Japanese as a Foreign Language on the Examination for Japanese University Admission (EJU) by Japan Student Services Organization, if obtained within a year before the date of the entrance examination of NBU, is also taken into consideration when deciding the admission.

If the applicant has not yet acquired credits at the time of their application, they may be required to obtain credits as a condition of enrollment. Furthermore, the grade the applicant is entered is depend on the result of the screening.

Note: enrollment admission will be revoked if the applicant’s eligibility is later revealed to be void.

The NBU Tuition Reduction Scholarship

Those students that satisfy the requirements designated by NBU will be eligible for the NBU Tuition Reduction Scholarship, with the level of scholarship dependent on a rank that is determined by the applicant's marks in the entrance examination.

Rank A 80% Tuition Reduction for the enrollment year The applicant must have obtained level N1 of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test administered by the Japan Educational Exchanges and Services or more than 650 points on J-TEST within two years prior to the date of entrance examination of NBU. In addition, the candidate must have exceeded designated levels of attainment in the NBU interview and written examinations.
Rank B 60% Tuition Reduction for the enrollment year The applicant must have obtained level N2 of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test administered by the Japan Educational Exchanges and Services or more than 550 points on J-TEST within two years prior to the date of entrance examination of NBU. In addition, the candidate must have exceeded designated levels of attainment in the NBU interview and written examinations.
Rank C 30% Tuition Reduction for the enrollment year The candidate must have exceeded designated levels of attainment in the NBU interview and written examinations.

This scholarship is available for privately funded foreign students.
Applicants may also be enrolled without being awarded the scholarship described above.
The scholarship criteria described above applies only to newly admitted students in their first year in the university. However, a similar system exists for existing students. For further details, please contact the International Affairs Office.
The tuition reduction is divided and applied to the applicable fees of both the Autumn and Spring Semesters.
Note that this scholarship will usually be revoked in the case that the admitted applicant transfers to a different department or faculty, or takes a leave of absence from the university following their enrollment.

Insurance premiums are 1200 yen Disaster and Accident Insurance for Student Education and Research and 680 yen for Liability Insurance for Student Education and Research, and 9,000 yen for the Environmental Maintenance Cost associated with the University’s Vehicles

Notes concerning the above listed expenses and fees :

  • The list of expenses and amounts vary according to the matriculation year of the student.
  • Those foreign students awarded the NBU Tuition Reduction Scholarship will pay a reduced amount for tuition according to the ranking described above.
  • For more details on how to pay the initial tuition fees, and the tuition fees for subsequent years, please refer to ‘the Admissions Procedures Guide for 2015’ enclosed with your admission notification.
  • Because the payment deadlines vary according to the classification of the entrance examination, please refer to the ‘ Admissions Procedures Guide for 2015’ to confirm the appropriate date that corresponds to your entrance examination.
  • The tuition fee for the Autumn semester is not included in the tuition fees paid at the time of the enrollment procedure. The tuition for the Autumn semester is to be paid in October (April for the case of Spring enrollment). Details will be forwarded to the admitted applicants separately.
  • Support club fee, Support association, and conference fees are levied on an annual basis.
  • The fee for the year book and alumni association fee will be collected in the senior/fourth grade.
  • Note that tuition fees are subject to change, both at the time of enrollment as well as during the period of the student's studies.
