Temporary return and re-entry

When you temporarily return to your country or travel to a country other than Japan during the vacations, you can leave Japan without the re-entry permission by using the special re-entry permission if you re-enter within the period of stay.

When you temporarily return to your country or travel to a country other than Japan, you need to inform about that to a person in charge of your class. Also you need to submit the form “temporary return”, passport, and airplane tickets at the international affairs office.

What is “special re-entry permission”?
If a foreign national who is in possession of a valid passport and a residence card intends to re-enter Japan within one year of departure, such foreign national will no longer be required to obtain re-entry permission at the time of departure. The new format of the re-entry and departure ED card contains a box which you will be asked to check at the time of departure to indicate whether you will be departing using re-entry permission or special re-entry permission.
