status and a residence card

Same as a Japanese citizen, a foreign national who will stay Japan for a long time must proceed the resident registration based on the Basic Resident Register Law. The resident registration is that a city or a town where you live controls your information about name, birth of date, residence, and national health insurance number. A foreign national who will stay Japan for a few years is controlled by a residence card. A resident card has been issued to a foreign national who entered Japan after July 9, 2012 (not included re-entry) in the entry inspection at the airport.

“A residence card” is issued to a foreign national who stays Japan for a long time and it is printed picture, address, nationality, status, period of the stay, and permission to engage in activity other than permitted under the status. You must carry it all the time when you go out.

Issue of a residence card

It is issued at the entry inspection with a seal of shore leave on your passport.

expiration

The expiration of a residence card is the last day of the resident period. A new residence card will be issued every time you change the status or renew the period of stay.

Change of registered records

When registered records are changed such as name, date of the birth, sex, nationality, region, and place you belong to, you have to register them within 14 days.

Applying for the renewal of period of stay

As NBU applies for the renewal of period of stay, international students do not have to go to the Immigration Bureau by themselves. All procedures will be done at NBU.

The procedures NBU representatively deals with does not guarantee the permission for application. Therefore, you should understand that NBU is not responsible for the judgment of the Immigration Bureau.
